Dr. Mark Gwartz graduated from dental school at the University of Toronto in 1982. He was then appointed as a part-time instructor in dental anatomy at the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto. Dr. Gwartz practiced all aspects of general dentistry in Burlington, Brampton and Toronto for nine years prior to deciding to return to graduate school for specialty training in Orthodontics in 1991. In 1993, Dr. Gwartz completed his Masters of Science in Dentistry degree, and orthodontic residency at the St. Louis University - Center for Advanced Dental Education. His research involved comparing the accuracy of X-rays to ultrasound for the diagnosis of jaw abnormalities. After obtaining his specialty certificate, Dr. Gwartz moved to Oakville and joined the practice of Dr. Robert Hamilton in 1993, and Dr. Ronald Cross in 1995. Both of these respected orthodontists have since retired, and Dr. Gwartz is proud to have shared in their knowledge and experience.
Currently, Dr. Gwartz is an active member of the Canadian Association of Orthodontists and Ontario Association of Orthodontists, and is on staff at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. He served as President of the Ontario Association of Orthodontists in 2004, representing the interests of the providers and consumers of orthodontic care in the province of Ontario. He is a board eligible member of the American Association of Orthodontists and is a charter member of the World Federation of Orthodontists.
Dr. Gwartz has been married to Florence since 1981 and they have three children: Harry, Steven and Brianne. He is a private pilot and is certified to fly seaplanes as well. In his spare time, Dr. Gwartz enjoys boating, fishing, playing guitar, movies and woodworking.
